Classic Courses/Sprints/Motala

Please join us for a morning of orienteering fun at the Adobe Dam Regional Park, an expansive terrain just south of Pinnacle Peak Road and 43rd Avenue in North Phoenix. The park hosts a variety of activies including karting, a water park, softball fields, model train circuits, and a model airplane aerodrome. On Saturday, April 6, we partner with our hosts at the Arizona Model Pilots Society to present a beginner's clinic and three shorter point-to-point (Classic) courses. Participants in the Classic courses can do one, two, or all three courses with breaks in-between each course. For those looking for a larger endurance challenge, you can string all three courses together, without breaks, into a "Motala". (Click here for more information about the Motala.)

Registration and first starts begin at 8:30 AM. The last time to start a course is 11:00 PM. The courses close at 12:00 PM.

Beginner's Clinic

In addition to the sprint courses, we're also offering a beginner's clinic for those who would like to brush up on navigation concepts. Participants will learn important techniques to navigate with a map and compass. While GPS receivers provide an easy way for people to navigate, conditions sometimes make GPS units unreliable or unusable (navigating in deep canyons, dead batteries, etc.) Navigation techniques used in orienteering are an invaluable complement to navigating with a GPS receiver.

Event Schedule:

08:30 AM - Sprint Courses Open

09:00 AM - Beginner's Clinic Begins

10:30 AM - Beginner's Clinic End

12:00 PM - Last time to start a Sprint course.

1:00 PM - Sprint Courses Close. Participants must complete any of the sprint courses by this time. We will start picking up bags at this time.
