Simonds Drive

A part of Chicago's LGBTQ+ Pride Week activities since 1982, Proud To Run (PTR) is an annual 10K run and 5K run/walk along the lakefront, focused on celebrating pride in a healthy way and raising funds to support the LGBTQ+ community of the greater Chicago area. In 2017, Proud To Run brought together over 2,000 runners, 200 volunteers, and hundreds of friends, families, and community partners. Additionally, a record $65,000 was raised and donated to our local community beneficiaries.
Proud To Run Chicago is a 501(c)(3) charity. Gifts to Proud To Run are fully deductible for United States federal income tax purposes, subject to the limitations placed on charitable gifts by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
The Proud To Run 10K run and 5K run/walk is organized by an all-volunteer, community-based board of directors. Proud To Run is also proudly presented by Frontrunners/Frontwalkers Chicago.

- 10K run - 8:04 a.m.
- 5K run/walk - 8:24 a.m.

Both the 5K Run/Walk and 10K Run courses start on Simonds Drive just north of Montrose Avenue, approximately three blocks east of Lake Shore Drive. The courses follow Simonds Drive to the Lakefront path at Foster, turn north and east by the Foster Ave. Beach House and then follow the cinder path back south along the Lakefront.

South of Lawrence, both courses follow the cinder path and turn onto an asphalt path next to the Wilson parking lot. After passing beneath Wilson, the courses then turn west to the Lakefront path, where they turn south. Just before Montrose, the courses turn east following the asphalt path. The courses separate here.

At the Montrose underpass, the 10K course turns south (see 10K directions below), proceeding south to Roscoe. The course turns east and then north along the concrete path next to the harbor until it rejoins the Lakefront path just south of Belmont Harbor Drive. Continuing north on the Lakefront path, the course turns east just before the tennis courts, and then north following the concrete path around the Waveland tennis courts and ball fields. The course rejoins the Lakefront path near Irving Park after passing east of the Waveland Ave North tennis courts and the playground.

The 10K course continues toward Montrose, curving east along the golf course and then north under the Montrose underpass, turning east to rejoin the 5K course. Continuing east and north on the asphalt path past the parking lot, the courses turn east and pass beneath Simonds Drive. The course then turns south and finishes near the Montrose Beach House.
