Join us for the Hairpin 5K Run/Walk in Fish Creek on Saturday, July 1 at 8:00 am!
This is a great July tradition for runners and walkers of all ages. This event fills and is capped at 1,500 participants, so register early! Timing chips for runners are limited to 1,100. Walkers are not timed.
The race begins at 8 am at Nicolet Bank, 9405 Hwy 42, Fish Creek. This early start time allows runners and families more time to enjoy other festive holiday plans.
There is one water station on the course located near mile 2. Strollers are allowed; however dogs and bikes are not allowed on the course. For your safety please stay on the sidewalks and grass near the start line prior to the race start. Once the highway is officially closed runners please line up at the front of the start line area and walkers please line up at the back.
The Hairpin 5K course is open to traffic. Highway 42 will be closed for 20 minutes at the start of the event but all other roadways are open to traffic during the event. These are quiet back roads but please proceed with caution as there may also be cars sharing the roadway.
The Friends of Gibraltar Hairpin Run starts by taking runners up the challenging Fish Creek Hill past a stunning view overlooking the village and Peninsula State Park.
At the top of the hill it turns to take runners down Gibraltar Bluff Road before the decent down the infamous hairpin turn on Cottage Row. Runners must manage the steep switchback before hitting the homestretch that takes them past some of Door County’s most prestigious addresses and impressive waterfront mansions.
Cottage Row was once home to the cottage of famed Green Bay Packers head coach Curly Lambeau. The cottage was destroyed by a fire in the 1960s.
The race finishes just before entering the village as runners leave the wooded canopy behind Founders Square.
