Since 1989, the City of Brigantine has been involved in the Brigantine Beach Triathlon. Every year since its inception, the race has benefited various entities on Brigantine Beach including the Marine Mammal Stranding Center, the American Red Cross, the Brigantine Board of Education and the Brigantine Community Education and Recreation Department (CER). Local Police, Fire, EMS. Department of Public Works, the Beach Patrol, Emergency Management, the NJ State Police, US Coast Guard, the City Manager and City Council and Mayor of Brigantine are all intimately involved in making this race a success, year after year.

After a two year hiatus, the City of Brigantine has partnered with Green Whales, Inc.  to bring this event back to Brigantine! We are very excited for this joint venture to continue supporting the local community.

The several hundred athletes of all different abilities, will participate in Saturday’s event which kicks off with a ¼ mile swim in the bay, beginning at the 26th St. S. City Dock area. The race is then followed by a scenic 11 mile bike ride around the Island of Brigantine. The athletes return to 26th 26th St. S. City Dock area where they will drop their bikes and don their running shoes for a 4 mile run to the North end of Brigantine and back finishing at the 26th St. S. Recreation Complex.

After the event all athletes will have time to relax at the 26th Street Recreation Complex with lunch, a DJ, and awards ceremony.


8:00 AM: Triathlon/Duathlon Start
9:00 AM: After Party begins
10:30 AM: Awards Ceremony
11:00 AM: Picnic lunch served

Course Information:


The swim course is a floating start, athletes will swim out 1/8 mile, turn back and swim to the City dock where they will have a beach finish.  

This course can often be challenging due to tidal influence.

Signing up for this race assumes that you have trained yourself as a swimmer and certify that you are in good shape to complete the event, and in particular, the swim.  Make sure you are prepared to swim against the sometimes strong current.


11 miles and covers the entire island.


4 miles that is an out and back run on Brigantine Blvd.  There will be water/gatorade stations throughout the course.
